Informing and empowering consumers

Over the past several years, ECC Greece has taken innovative steps to ensure consumers are well-informed and empowered. From engaging campaigns to collaborative initiatives, ECC Greece remains dedicated to enhancing consumer awareness and protection. Here are some impactful projects and partnerships transforming the landscape of consumer protection in Greece and beyond.

Consumer rights campaign

In 2016, we ran a campaign producing a leaflet on the '10 most basic rights of consumers'. The purpose was to focus on the most common problems faced by consumers, according to our case-handling experience, and associate these problems with corresponding rights. If consumers are well-informed about these rights, they will be more able to exercise them effectively in future purchase transactions.

Airport magazine features

In 2017, we started a unique cooperation with the editor of the Athens’ airport official magazine 'READY2BOARD' for the publication of an informative article on air-passenger rights in all the quarterly editions of the magazine every year. The editor considered this to be a highly impactful publication, given the magazine’s high readership and popularity among the millions of tourists visiting Greece every year, so in 2023, we were honoured to renew this long-standing cooperation.

A new and more accessible website 

In 2022, we launched our brand-new website with financial support from the EU. Thanks to the new website we were able to shape a more visible and contemporary public profile of ECC Greece, as well as to provide better, friendlier and more well-constructed information, help and advice to consumers, allowing them also to submit information requests via a dedicated online platform faster and more conveniently.

Raising awareness with an online campaign

In 2023, we organised an awareness campaign on Facebook, which allowed us (a) to survey most common consumer issues when shopping in physical stores and online, as well as (b) to enlarge consumer knowledge about ADR entities that can assist them effectively in the event of a dispute with a trader.

Comparative study on Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR)

In 2023, we started leading a comparative study across eight (8) Balkan and south-east Mediterranean EU member-states (Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Malta, Romania, Slovenia), in order to explore harmonization, implementation and implications of the ADR Directive (institutional framework, in combination with quantitative achievements and quality benchmarks of ADR entities listed in each member-state under the ADR Directive). The study is still ongoing, and its ultimate objective will be to highlight best practices and make critical observations on the current state of play of consumer ADR in a significant part of the EU, allowing also for comparisons with the ADR situation in other parts of Europe.

Sharing insights at the Future of retail 2024 conference

In 2024, we were honourably invited as main speakers in the panel “digital transformation in retail” of the conference "FUTURE OF RETAIL 2024", a high-level event with considerable international impact organised by the Hellenic Confederation of Commerce and Entrepreneurship. We were given an invaluable chance to present the views of our ECC on how consumer trust can contribute to the further development of e-commerce before a diverse and prestigious audience, comprised of representatives from the government and parliamentary political parties, as well as participants from Greek and foreign leading companies across all market sectors.
