Sustainability focus (ESG)

ECC-Net supports the European Green Deal and is actively examining its role in this deal as the contact point for consumer issues within the internal market. 


ESG reporting

How sustainable is ECC-Net? The network performed an internal maturity check in 2021. To be able to better advise consumers on matters of sustainable consumption, we first assessed our own strengths and weaknesses. The analysis determined several sustainable focus areas along the principles of ESG (environmental, social, governance) and SDG (sustainable development goals) reporting. The infographic and focus activities below show our goals for the coming years.

Environmental dimension

    Zero waste consumer rights support. 

  • The majority of the ECC-Net offices have implemented waste separation, waste recycling and waste reduction (especially paper). In addition, in most of the offices, kitchens provide the necessary utensils to make lunch or bring lunch to work rather than buying takeaway.

  • For ECC-Net the responsible use of energy and utilities includes aspects related to the office buildings, for instance heating, air conditioning or the equipment of energy saving light bulbs. Furthermore, using public transport plays a big role in the network. The availability of public transport policies, vouchers and bicycles encourages a more sustainable way of commuting within the team.

  • When organising events, ECC-Net pays attention to a sustainable food offer, for instance through the availability of vegetarian menu options and the hiring of sustainable event venues. Moreover, ECC-Net organises events that thematise topics related to sustainability.

Social dimension

    Employee development and well-being.

  • ECC-Net cares about its employees and their health as much as it cares about the consumers it serves. ECCs provide a large health-related offer to their employees, including regular health checks, health workshops and ergonomic arrangements for the workplace. ECC-Net also aims to strengthen its focus on mental well-being in these next few years.

  • ECC-Net highly values diversity, equality and inclusion. Hence, it is important for ECC-Net to live by this every day, internally and externally. Internally, ECCs see a female representation that is well above average. Externally, all consumers who are in need of support are treated to their individual needs.

Governance dimension

    Transparent and accountable operations services.

  • Transparency is key at ECC-Net. Therefore, throughout the year all offices see several instances of reporting and regular audits are performed to assure high-quality standards on all levels. In addition, the constant informal exchange of information between team members leads to a unique offer of international customer support.
