EU Safer Internet Day 2025: Digital Safety in Online Environments

11 February 2025

On 11 February, organisations across Europe will join to observe Safer Internet Day, an annual initiative dedicated to raising awareness about online safety and fostering a positive digital environment. This year’s theme emphasises the importance of collaborating to create a better internet for all.

Two factor authentication

On Safer Internet Day, the ECC Network (ECC-Net) promotes the use of two-factor authentication (2FA) to highlight the importance of personal digital security. This mechanism is essential for safeguarding personal information and preventing unauthorised access to digital accounts.

Better Internet for Kids

Additionally, ECC-Net supports the Better Internet for Kids (BIK) initiative, which delves into the psychological effects of online platforms and provides valuable resources aimed at enhancing digital security, with a focus on key areas such as:

  • Recognising design strategies in online gaming
  • Understanding the dynamics of digital transactions
  • Implementing practical online safety measures

In particular, BIK offers insights into online gaming platforms and design strategies that can impact young users’ digital interactions. These strategies can subtly influence users’ behaviour and sometimes lead to unexpected financial pressures on families.
