Join us for Europe Day Celebrations this May
Festivals, open houses, talk shows, picnics and concerts: in May our European Consumer Centres Network celebrate Europe Day (9 May). Read more about the activities our centres are hosting or attending to celebrate peace and unity in Europe.
Austria
ECC Austria opens its doors to the public on Europe Day. ECC Austria will hand out promotional materials right in front of its office in a busy shopping street in Vienna. Shoppers will be invited to have a look inside the office to get a better idea of the ECC’s daily work and to ask questions. There will also be a raffle. And if that’s not enough, ECC Austria is also launching its first-ever advertising campaign on public transport video screens. The campaign is expected to reach more than a million people.
Belgium
Europe Direct Antwerp is organising an event to focus on a greener Europe on 10 May. One of the speakers addressing climate change is European Climate Pact ambassador and former TV weather man Frank Deboosere. ECC Belgium participates in the event and will also host a stand to promote its ‘web shop check’ campaign.
Bulgaria
In the beautiful old city of Plovdiv ECC Bulgaria and Europe Direct Plovdiv are hosting an open information stand on Europe Day. Consumers can get information and free consumer advice. A short concert hosted by the municipality on the occasion of Europe Day will hopefully draw even more consumers to the stand.
Czechia
Music and relaxation under the sun and trees! ECC Czechia celebrates peace in Europe on Friday 5 May by attending the open-air Europe Day festival at the beautiful Střelecký ostrov, an island in the middle of the Vlatava river in Prague. Enjoy theatre and music performances by bands from Sweden, the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Croatia and Czechia and listen to debates on (geo)politics, the economy, disinformation and the war in Ukraine. Want to meet the ECC Czechia team? Visit our stand between 13.00 and 18.00.
Finland
Experts from ECC Finland will share information about EU consumer rights at the Helsinki Central Library Oodi on 9 May between 10.00 and 17.30. You can find our stand with information about consumer and passenger rights, sweets and canvas bags on the first floor at the EU@Oodi.
France
Together with ECC Germany, ECC France actively promotes the ‘Do Something for Europe’ initiative on the website, on social media and in its newsletter. The ECCs also join on open house event at the European Parliament in Strasbourg on 13 May and are invited to a reception hosted by the mayor or Strasbourg on 9 May.
Germany
ECC Germany has prepared a press release for the entire network about the activities and successes of the European Consumer Centres Network in 2022. ECC Germany and ECC France are also part of the open doors event of the European Parliament in Strasbourg. The ECCs will operate a stand there to inform consumers, present their work and hopefully make some new ECC-Net friends.
Hungary
ECC Hungary will join an event hosted by the European Commission Representation in Budapest on 7 May. The centre will distribute leaflets, offer personal advice and quiz consumers on consumer protection topics. ECC Hungary is also looking forward to the occasion to meet with some Europe Direct centres during the event.
Italy
Feel like coffee and croissants? ECC Italy’s Bolzano office is hosting a small ‘European breakfast’ press event at 09.30 on Europe Day. Local media are invited to learn more about how the ECC Network helps European citizens and about the most important issues we handled this year.
Colleagues from ECC Italy’s Rome office will join two conferences hosted by Europe Direct centres on 4 May and 19 May.
Lithuania
The ‘Europe Day Picnic’ at the ECC-Net Almond Park has become a tradition for ECC Lithuania. All colleagues, partners, residents and visitors are invited to a relaxing day at the park on 8 May.
On 9 May, ECC Lithuania will take part in the Europe Day celebrational activities of the European Commission Representation in a tent near Vilnius’ city hall. Get a consult about your consumer rights or play (VR) games with us!
Luxembourg
Like every year, ECC Luxembourg participates in a Europe Day festival during which all European organisations, networks and institutions in Luxembourg are invited to present themselves. At ECC Luxembourg’s stand, the centre’s experts will present their services and give advice to consumers. There will also be musical entertainment. As 9 May is a public holiday in Luxembourg, the festival is very popular with families. This year, the European Court of Justice will also open its doors to the public.
Malta
How are EU funds invested in projects that stimulate a better quality of life? Servizzi Ewropej f’Malta (SEM) and Europe Direct Valletta will organise an event in Pjazza Ąlsien, Valletta on May 9 between 09.00 and 13.00. Students from the Malta Visual and Performing Arts School and other college students will be quizzed about their knowledge of the EU. ECC Malta will also participate in the event. An earlier event hosted by Europe Direct on sister island Gozo and attended by ECC Malta also had a good turnout.
The Netherlands
The Dutch team is splitting up for Europe Day celebrations on 9 May. Part of the ECC Netherlands team will travel to The Hague to take part in a panel discussion organised by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency and the Commission’s Representation in the Netherlands. The discussion will look back on 30 years of the European Single Market as well as look to the future. Another part of the team will travel to the Alkmaar library in the northern part of the Netherlands. Here colleagues will participate in a talk show hosted by Europe Direct and the Network for European and International Orientation in Education and Society (NEIOS).
Romania
ECC Romania has a busy activities schedule. On 8 May the centre has invited students with an interest in consumer protection to their office to chat about Europe and ECC-Net.
On 9 May ECC Romania and Europe Direct Romania will organise an event to celebrate Europe Day, themed ‘Let’s make the future green!’. The event will take place near the Faculty of Geography at the University Square and focuses on the importance of recycling and combatting climate change and air pollution. ECC Romania will also participate in a conference organised by the European Commission Representation and the Liaison Office of the European Parliament in Romania.
